Cards To Julia From The Wallabies

My daughter, Julia, had her tonsils taken out two weeks ago. I went to visit my students at school the next day and they had all made cards for Julia that were so sweet. When I got home I brought a tray up to Julia with broth and the cards made by my students on it. She looked at the cards and instantly felt a little better while reading them and looking at the pictures. First graders are so sweet! These two cards are from Kate and Taylor.

Field Trip To Donatos Pizza

Our First Graders go to Donatos Pizza each year. The children have so much fun seeing the behind the scenes view in the kitchen area, and walk-in refrigerator and freezer. As the students are having fun, they are also participating in several first grade skills and topics. Sequencing in reading is a skill we practice all year long in first grade. While the children are preparing their pizzas, they are using sequencing terms such as first, next, then, and last. We also study food groups and nutrition in first grade. I know you're probably saying pizza is not a great example of nutritious food--but it really is because it incorporates several food groups--and if you put vegetables as one of your toppings, you could have a balanced meal!

We Are Walsh's Wallabies

This was our first walking field trip in the fall. We went to the pumpkin patch. Everyone picked out their own special pumpkin to bring back to school. We did many fun activities with the pumpkins including decorating them
